Summary:The lesions induced by means of the oral administration of an hydroalcoholic extract of Cistus ladaniferus to rats were studied. The duration of the study and the doses used were similar to those described in the naturally occurring intoxication encountered in sheep. The lungs, liver and kidneys show gross non specific lesions. The pulmonary lesions correspond microscopically to a catarrhal bronchopneumonia with descamation. The liver presents vacuolar cytoplasmic degeneration and areas of micronecrosis together with a perifocal inflammatory reaction with histiocytes, lymphocytes and plasma cells. The kidney shows a toxic nephrosis with granular casts and a focal interstitial nephritis.
