Effect of the two herbicides Igran and Topogard on meiotic behaviour of Vicia faba L

The effect of the two herbicides, Igran (4-ethylamino-2-tert. butylamino-6-methylthio-s-triazine) and Topogard (4-tert. butylamino-2-chloro-6-ethylamino-s-triazine and 2-tert. butylamino-4-ethylamino-6-methylthio-s-triazine) have been studied in pollen mother cells of Vicia faba L. The two herbicide...

Summary:The effect of the two herbicides, Igran (4-ethylamino-2-tert. butylamino-6-methylthio-s-triazine) and Topogard (4-tert. butylamino-2-chloro-6-ethylamino-s-triazine and 2-tert. butylamino-4-ethylamino-6-methylthio-s-triazine) have been studied in pollen mother cells of Vicia faba L. The two herbicides induced significant percentage of meiotic irregularities as compared with the control. The increase in abnormal cells was dose-related. The types of chromosomal aberrations induced by the two herbicides were almost similar. They include stickiness, lagging chromosomes, anaphase bridges and multipolar telophases.
