Summary:This review article provides basic information on different Monogeneans parasitising cichlids. Cichlidogyrus spp. (Monogenea: Dactylogyridae) had arrived to the Neotropical region with the introduction of their hosts, African cichlids. It was demonstrated that these monogeneans can infect native cichlids. Other species of monogeneans are also presented and the problems they can cause in fish aquacultures are discussed.
