Summary:This contribution briefly comments upon results (mostly not published so far) of the detailed morphological and genetical analyses of spiny loaches inhabiting the territory of the Czech Republic as well as other loaches originating from various locations in Elbe, Rhine, Odra and Danube River basins. It also summarises numerous discussions among authors regarding taxonomy, systematics, distribution and hybrid polyploid complexes present across the Central Europe to provide frame for working hypotheses dealing above problems.
