Summary:In addition to the principal effects, many drugs induce also favourable and/or harmful effects. Such effects are specified for three model drugs including cocaine used as an anaesthetic in ophthalmology, cardiac glycosides, and levamisol. A brief survey of drugs known to induce side effects in individual animal species is given. Their knowledge will help veterinary practitioners to avoid and to control unavoidable undesirable effects of drugs.
