Summary:A front-mounted insect pneumatic collector "bio-collector", and rear-mounted propane flamer Reinert DA-211 were tested in the potato fields. The functional performance of the two machines were evaluated for their quality of work, ease of operation and adjustment, rate of work, power requirements, safety and reliability. Measurements were taken and observations were made to determine the effectiveness of these machines in the control of the Colorado potato beetle. This study demonstrates the potential of pneumatic control for Colorado potato beetle adults and larvae. About 87 % of dislodged adults were collected but dislodging efficacy averaged 60 %. Efficacy on larvae was even lower, about 46 % of dislodged larvae were collected but only about 45 % were dislodged.
