Summary:The monograph presents the overview and the results of the research on the development and use of methods of DNA technology in breed-forming of swine. Methods of DNA technology as an effective direction of practical swine breeding are analyzed; use of genetic markers in the industrial and brood swine breeding is described; marker -dependent selection aimed on the improvement of the reproductive characteristics of pigs is substantiated. Increase of feeding and meat qualities of pigs with the help of methods of marker -dependent selection is presented. The role of the marker-dependent selection in the prevention of diseases of swine is evaluated; genetic evaluation of pigs by DNA microsatellites is made. Brief characteristic of the species composition of pigs bred in the Republic of Belarus is given, effectiveness of their selection and use in breeding is analyzed. Comprehensive characteristic of Belarusian large white breed, Belarusian black -and-white breed, Belarusian meat breed, Duroc and Landrace breeds is given.
