Summary:A considerable portion of grape growing vineyard areas in South Bulgaria intended for table wine production is covered with the Pamid grape variety. It is an ancient local variety whose micro region of growth and development is the district of Pazardzhik. Pamid variety occupies 60% of the grape-growing vineyards in the district. A large part of the plantations of this grape variety is more than 20-30 years old. In spite of the not quite good condition of the vines their vitality is still preserved although weakened. The greater part of the other grape variety plantations in Bulgaria are currently in a similar condition. A survey has been carried out devoted to the rejuvenation and regeneration of vines of the variety Pamid, covering the period 2003-2004 with a location in the Experimental Winegrowing facility of Septemvri. The survey was carried out using Pamid grape variety. The following parameters were surveyed – climatic, biometric parameters, indicators of fertility, yield and quality of the grapes. The study carried out has demonstrated that rapid intense growth of branches was introduced allowing for the fast formation of vines with one or two major branches shoulders. During the second year a very good yield can be expected of about 1200 kg per one decar of grape crops.
