Summary:The research was conducted during 2005- 2007 in the experimental field of the Cotton and Durum Wheat Research Institute, Chirpan, Bulgaria on pellic vertisol soil type, with cotton cultivar Avangard-264. an experiment was carried out according to the block method in 4 replications, on a 1 m2 harvesting area, after durum wheat predecessor. investigated was the influence Xanthium strumarium L. density on cotton growth in different stages of its development - bud formation, flowering, boll opening. It has been established that the cotton is most sensitive to the competition of Xanthium strumarium L. in stagesflowering and boll opening and the cotton plants height average for the test period declines by 8.3 cm to 22.5 cm. In phase bud formation Xanthium strumarium L. deoxidized this indicator by 4.5 cm. to 11.6 cm. The strongest growth of the weed is observed over the stages-flowering and boll opening of the cotton.
