Summary:Micromorphological studies were carried out on the skeleton musculature of lambs from North Bulgarian fine wool breed, j crosses of Australian merino and j crosses of III de France. The bassic slaughter characteristics were studied upon reaching 130 days of age. Micromorphological studies were performed on the m. Longissimus, m. Semitendinosus and m. Semimembranosus - muscle fiber diameter, ratio between the tissue components, ratio between the dark and light muscle fibers as well as the muscle eye area. The results of the study showed that lambs from j crosses of III de France exceeded the animals of the other two groups on the basic traits in the study. Introducing of the III de France breed into the North Bulgarian fine wool breed through improved crossing woould influence positively its meat qualities.
