Summary:In this study the influence of Ca2+-deficiency and water stress (WS), applied along and in combination, on functional activity and ultrastructure of chloroplasts (CHLP) of maize plants was investigated. When Ca2+-deficient plants were subjected to WS the thylakoid system of their CHLP was more reduced and dilatated, with appearance of electron-transparent spaces and great plastoglobuli. The CHLP envelope was disrupted. Plastid's pigments and photosynthetical activity decreased.
