Summary:Samples of beach soils collected from Teknaf, Cox's Bazar and St. Martins island were studied qualitatively for their microbial population. The study yielded a number of actinomycetes having interesting morphological features and some of these are isolated for the first time here. The organisms were initially identified as members of Streptomyces, Micromonospora, Planobiospora and Rothia. Under certain conditions, usually with low nutrient supply the organisms showed unusual morphological features especially on their hyphal thickness and sporulation pattern which could possibly help in their adaptation under different ecological conditions.
