Summary: | Toxic effects of five organophosphorus insecticides - Nogos, Dimecron, Diazinon, Malathion and Nexion were tested on some Ostracods and Copepods in laboratory conditions. The per cent mortality of test animals varied depending on the type and size of the animals, type and dosages of insecticides, and exposure time. Of the five insecticides, Nogos proved to be extremly toxic to both ostracods and copepods whereas Dimecron and Nexion were found to have the lowest toxic effect on Ostracods and Copepods, respectively. Ostracods were comparatively more susceptible to Nogos and Dimecron than the Copepods. Copepods were more tolerant to Diazinon, Malathion and Nexion than the Ostracods. The LD(50) and LD(90) values varied inversely with the increase of exposure time. |
