Summary:A study of relative use and efficiency of fishing gears was made in the Chandpur, Bangladesh, Irrigation Project area during the period from 1977 to 1979. The use of gill nets and cast nest remained relatively constant throughout the entire period of study. The relative efficiency of the different gears for catching fish showed marked differences. With construction of artificial barriers such as water regulator pumping stations and embankments, the recruitment and replenishment of fish within the project area drastically reduced.
