Summary:The area under mango is the largest in comparison with any other fruit of Bangladesh, but the production is still far behind the minimum requirement of the country. A systematic approach in this direction was initiated with the establishment of Horticultural Development Board in 1974. About 60 bases/nurseries started functioning throughout the whole country for promoting the production and distribution of saplings of various fruits including mango. Since 1982, the extension work in mango is pursued with the same, if not more, dynamism and spirit. In each year about 75 thousand of mango grafts are produced and distributed to the growers. Besides this primary job of mango extension many growers are trained on mango production, supplied with the literature of mango production technology and equipped with the information of procuring various inputs for mango cultivation.
