Summary:Raising gifted children is both a joy and a challenge. How does one survive and thrive living in a gifted family? Parents play an essential role in helping children develop appreciation and respect for the world and their place in it. Intellectual development and emotional reactions begin at an early age, and many major behavioral patterns are set by the time the child reaches school. Parents of gifted may feel alienated and alone. The extended family and neighborhood support that was present in past generations is often missing in today's society. This article offers suggestions for parents and family on how to raise and deal with gifted children. The author advises parents to accept and appreciate the uniqueness of one's bright children and love them for who they are, not just for their gifts and talents.
