Summary:The world was a different place when "Understanding Our Gifted" introduced "Surfing the Net" in 1994 as a regular feature. Since then, technology and the Internet have become part of people's culture, permeating almost every aspect of their lives. The Internet has greatly changed the way they conduct business and communicate with friends, it helps them at work and play, and it has even altered the way they take care of their health. The Internet, virtually unheard of just over a decade ago, is now a vital daily part of most people's lives because of its anonymity, speed, and ability to reach across all boundaries. As "Surfing the Net" begins a second decade, this article looks back at some of the ways families and educators have used Internet technology and also looks forward to the future.
