Summary:This article examines how three novice graduate teaching assistants included lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer topics in their first-year writing classrooms. Findings suggest that inclusion of these topics can be successfully done through attention to identity in the classroom, including current-day events, and structuring classroom activities that support inclusion. Further implications suggest the importance of including graduate teaching assistants in discussions about cutting-edge pedagogical practices in the classroom.
