Summary: | All young people have the potential to succeed--to do well academically, socially, and economically. Some young people, though, experience cumulative and chronic adversity along the way--disrupting their opportunities to thrive. Young people have the best chance to realize their potential when communities can intentionally align support with young people's needs and strengths. Given that so many youth face adversities that undermine their potential, the Center for Promise is intent on learning more about Adverse Life Experiences (ALEs), their effects, and the kinds of support and resources youth need to thrive in spite of them. This report, a collection of findings from four separate studies with three independent and representative data collections on youth in America, offers insights and recommendations that can be used by practitioners and policymakers to help mitigate the impact that multiple adversities have on the lives of America's youth. |
