Summary:This article describes a project in which the reality and importance of newspaper production was integrated into the language arts curriculum in a second-grade classroom. Both a print- and a multimedia-based class newspaper were produced using the Student Writing Center software and HyperStudio. The activity involved the input of a university researcher, teacher researcher, and the students. Educational benefits for students included learning the steps of the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing), learning how to be a better writer, learning cooperation, developing computer skills, and gaining a sense of real world activities. (Contains 33 references. Facsimiles of printed and multimedia editions of the student newspaper are attached.) (EF)
