Summary:Educational partnerships are an important strategy for increasing the authenticity and value of school for future citizens. In addition to the financial benefits that school-business partnerships bring to schools, there are a variety of teaching and learning benefits of making links with the community. This report outlines reasons why schools, businesses, industry, and other agencies should actively pursue educational partnerships, shares examples of successful and valuable educational partnerships, and concludes with an examination of some issues and concerns. The educational partnerships that have contributed to the success of the Galileo Center at banded Peak School in Bragg Creek, Alberta, are also examined. Educators and business representatives should discuss the variety of activities in which they will participate, as well as the mutual benefits of their collaboration. Some examples of partnership activities and school-to-work transition programs that potential partners may be interested in pursuing for mutual benefit include the following: (1) shared computer-based projects; (2) reading and math programs; (3) technical training; (4) guest speakers; (5) displaying and publishing student work; (6) extracurricular connections, and (7) educator and employee workshops.
