Summary: | The major part of this report of the Intergovernmental Conference on Scientific and Technical Information (UNISIST II), held in Paris May 28-June 1, 1979, focuses on three sets of recommendations which were unanimously approved after combining the recommendations proposed by various groups and blocs: (1) recommendations to the United Nations Conference on Science and Technology for Development (UNCSTD), (2) recommendations to Unesco, and (3) recommendations to member states. In addition, the report summarizes the conference's major issues of concern, provides a brief description of conference activities, discusses the "politicization" of the conference, describes U.S. participation, and presents a short historical background of UNISIST, including its policies, plans, norms, and standards.
