Summary:A method of and apparatus for cleaning a conveyor belt. A roller (10) is frictionally engaged with a downwardly facing load carrying surface of the belt (34) so that it is caused to rotate by the moving belt. The rotary movement of the roller is transferred via a gear train (14, 20) to a brush (16) which is upstream of the roller and in contact with the belt. The belt is brushed by the brush in a direction which is opposite to its direction of movement and thus material brushed from the belt is directed downwardly and away from the roller. A substantially constant force is continuously exerted on the brush, which is movable more or less perpendicularly to the belt surface, so that a constant brushing force is maintained as the brush wears in use.
