NEW COLLECTORS FOR THE FLOTATION OF ORES
The collector is a sulphide of the type R-S-R' (where R and R' are different hydrocarbons, esp. 1-20C alkyl, at least one of which is substd. by an O- or S-contg. gp., esp. hydroxyl or carboxyl. Pref. R is 6-18C alkyl and R' is -(CH2)nOH or -(CH2)nCOOR" (where n is 1-18, pref. 1-...

Summary: | The collector is a sulphide of the type R-S-R' (where R and R' are different hydrocarbons, esp. 1-20C alkyl, at least one of which is substd. by an O- or S-contg. gp., esp. hydroxyl or carboxyl. Pref. R is 6-18C alkyl and R' is -(CH2)nOH or -(CH2)nCOOR" (where n is 1-18, pref. 1-6, and R" is a hydrocarbon, esp. 1-18C alkyl). Exemplified cpds. are dodecylthio-2-ethanol and tetradecylthio-2-ethanol. The collector is used in amt. 10-500 (pref. 30-200) ppm (30-200g/tonne) w.r.t. the mineral or 0.5 x 10-4 - 25 x 10-4 g/l (0.05-2.5 ppm) w.r.t. the mineral pulp. The collector is esp. useful in flotation of sulphide minerals such as galena, chalcopyrite, argentite, chalcocite, covellite, pyrites and marcasite. The collector gives improved mineral recoveries and good sepn. between certain minerals; e.g. chalcopyrite can be sepd. from pyrites or blend more efficiently than when using known collectors. |
