Summary:The elevator has two elevator cars (7a,7b) lying on one another, which are moved vertically in a tower independent of each other and which possess an individual drive (A1,A2) with a motor. A traction sheave (1a,1b), an individual counterbalance (12a,12b), an individual traction device, are provided. A drive is fixed at a tower wall and another drive is fixed at an opposite tower. The motors of the drives are arranged perpendicularly over the assigned traction sheaves.
