An apparatus for exchanging a first gas contained in a sealed container for a second gas. The apparatus comprises a vacuum chamber for receiving the container and for maintaining a controlled pressure about the container, a gas exchange head for exchanging gas in the container while maintaining a seal between the container and the chamber, and a vacuum source coupled to the gas exchange head and to the vacuum chamber for evacuating the first gas from the container and air from the chamber. The apparatus further has a gas source for supplying the second gas, the gas source being coupled to the gas exchange head for supplying the second gas to the container, and a sensor for monitoring the pressure in the container during gas exchange. The present invention further provides for a controller for adjusting the rate with which the first gas is removed from the container and the rate at which the chamber is evacuated such that the container is not damaged, and the controller can adjust the rate at which gas is supplied to the container and the rate with which the chamber is pressurized so as not to damage said container. L'invention se rapporte à un appareil conçu pour échanger un premier gaz contenu dans un contenant scellé avec un second gaz. Ledit appareil comporte une chambre à vide conçue pour recevoir le contenant scellé et pour maintenir une pression régulée autour dudit contenant, une tête d'échange de gaz conçue pour échanger le gaz du contenant tout en conservant l'étanchéité entre le contenant et la chambre, et une source de vide couplée à la tête d'échange de gaz et à la chambre à vide pour évacuer le premier gaz du contenant et l'air de la chambre. Ledit appareil comporte en outre une source de gaz conçue pour fournir le second gaz, ladite source de gaz étant couplée à la tête d'échange de gaz de façon à alimenter le contenant en second gaz, et un capteur conçu pour contrôler la pression dans le contenant au cours de l'échange de gaz. La présente invention se rapporte également à un régulateur conçu pour ajuster la vitesse à laquelle le premier gaz est évacué du contenant et la vitesse à laquelle la chambre est mise sous vide de sorte que le contenant n'est pas endommagé; ledit régulateur peut ajuster la vitesse d'alimentation du contenant en gaz et la vitesse à laquelle la chambre est pressurisée de façon à ne pas endommager ledit contenant.
