Summary:The present invention relates to a cleaning apparatus for cleaning, for example, medical instruments, surgical trays and the like. Typical prior art cleaning or disinfecting units operate autonomously and are conventionally loaded manually. Such a mode of operation is clearly inefficient and manpower intensive. Accordingly, the present invention provides apparatus for cleaning articles comprising at least one cleaning unit (102) having a chamber (116) for receiving a tray loaded with articles to be cleaned, said cleaning unit being arranged to clean said articles, transport means (112, 114) for loading and removing said tray of articles into and out of said chamber and control means for automatically coordinating the operation of the cleaning unit and said transport means.
