Summary:This invention relates to the production of black body-generating decoy flares. Compositions are provided which, when combusted, provide black body radiation. The compositions generally include from about 40 % to about 70 % metal such as magnesium or aluminum, from about 10 % to about 40 % polytetrafluorethylene, and from about 8 % to about 30 % binder. Important to the operation of the present invention is the production of carbon upon combustion of the composition. Accordingly, polyaromatic thermoplastics, such as polystyrene and dimethyl phthalate, serve as the binder. Also disclosed are methods of producing black body decoy flares. L'invention concerne la production de corps noirs produisant des leurres thermiques. On décrit des compositions, lesquelles, une fois brûlées, produisent un rayonnement de corps noir. Ces compositions comprennent généralement de 40 à 70 % environ de métal tel que du magnésium, de l'aluminium, de 10 à 40 % environ de polytétrafluoroéthylène, et de 8 à 30 % environ de liant. Ce qui est important au bon fonctionnement de la présente invention, c'est la production de carbone lors de la combustion de la composition. En conséquence, on utilise en tant que liant des thermoplastiques polyaromatiques, tels que du polystyrène et du diméthylphtalate. L'invention concerne également des procédés de production de leurres thermiques à base de corps noir.
