A method of translating screen displays (100) of a user application program (200, 300, 400) from a first base language to a user-selectable second language. The method is driven by program software which intercepts the messages created by a presentation manager (100) of a windows operating system, the messages being used to form screen displays (100) of the user application program (200, 300, 400) on the terminal. The method can either translate all designated application screens (100) upon start up of the application program (200, 300, 400) or can be individually translated as they appear on the terminal screen (100). L'invention porte sur un procédé pour traduire les images d'écran (100) d'une application usager (200, 300, 400) d'une première langue de base en une seconde langue choisie par l'usager. Ledit procédé est piloté par un logiciel de programmation qui capte les messages créés par le gestionnaire de présentation (100) d'un système de commande de fenêtres. Lesdits messages servent à former sur le poste usager des images écran (100) de l'application usager (200, 300, 400). Le procédé peut également servir à traduire toutes les images d'écran (100) sélectionnée lors du démarrage de l'application usager (200, 300, 400) ou à les traduire séparément lorsqu'elles apparaissent sur l'écran (100) du poste usager.
