The present invention relates to a dead man's handle device for a motor powered lawn mower (1), having an electrical device without moving parts to provide a dead man's handle function. A capacitive sensing device, preferably a coaxial cable (8), runs in the lawn mower handle (7). Said coaxial cable reacts when the handle (7) is touched and then allows motor activity, and the coaxial cable (8) provides stopping of the motor (5) when the contact is discontinued. The contact with the handle (performed e.g. by leaning the chest/body against the handle or placing the arm on the handle) may take place at an arbitrary location along the handle, making the dead man's handle function very comfortable in use. The lawn mower is also equipped with an alarm device (17) emitting alarm signals when the contact with the handle (7) is discontinued. L'invention concerne un dispositif d'homme mort sous forme de poignée conçu pour une tondeuse à gazon à moteur (1) et comportant un appareil électrique sans pièces mobiles afin de remplir une fonction d'arrêt d'urgence. Un élément de détection capacitif, de préférence, un câble coaxial (8), passe dans la poignée (7) de la tondeuse. Ledit câble coaxial (8) réagit quand on touche la poignée (7), ce qui permet d'actionner le moteur et il arrête le moteur (5) quand on relâche le contact. Le contact avec la poignée (réalisé par appui du corps ou de la poitrine contre la poignée ou par positionnement du bras sur la poignée) peut s'effectuer à un emplacement situé arbitrairement le long de la poignée, ce qui confère une grande souplesse d'utilisation à la fonction. La tondeuse à gazon est également équipée d'un système d'alarme (17) émettant des signaux d'alarme quand le contact avec la poignée (7) est relâché.
