Summary:An apparatus and method is provided for reducing the strength of the magnetic field in a region near electric power lines (24, 26, 28) or other devices which generate ELF magnetic fields. The field strength is reduced by creating a second, canceling field by running a current through an appropriately configured canceling conductor (12). An alternative embodiment of the invention relates to the use of various shielding materials (148) which help to shape the field to be canceled through the use of a canceling conductor arrangement. L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant de réduire l'intensité du champ magnétique à proximité de lignes d'alimentation en énergie électrique (24, 26, 28) ou d'autres systèmes qui produisent des champs magnétiques d'extrême basse fréquence. L'intensité de champ est réduite par la production d'un second champ d'annulation obtenu par passage d'un courant à travers un conducteur d'annulation (12) de configuration appropriée. Un autre mode de réalisation de l'invention concerne l'utilisation de différents matériaux de blindage (148) qui contribuent à conformer le champ à annuler à l'aide d'un système conducteur d'annulation.
