A generally rectangular outer housing (32) sized to fit within the full height five and one quarter inch form factor. A drawer (34) is mounted for sliding motion within the housing along a longitudinal axis thereof from a retracted position in which the drawer is substantially fully contained within the housing (32) to an extended position in which a forward portion of the drawer (34) extends beyond a forward transverse end of the housing (32). A data tape drive (35) is mounted within a rear portion of the drawer and has a forwardly opening cassette insertion slot. A cassette magazine (42) is provided that has a plurality of vertically spaced receptacles for holding a plurality of data cassettes in a vertically stacked configuration. A magazine loader (36) is mounted in the forward portion of the drawer for receiving and vertically reciprocating the cassette magazine (42) and for selectively transferring cassettes between the magazine (42) and the cassette insertion slot of the data tape drive (35). Un tiroir (34) est monté de façon à glisser à l'intérieur du boîtier le long d'un axe situé dans la longueur dudit boîtier depuis une position retirée dans laquelle le tiroir se trouve pratiquement totalement à l'intérieur du boîtier (32) vers une position étendue dans laquelle une partie avant du tiroir (34) s'étend au-delà d'une extrémité avant transversale dudit boîtier (32). Un système d'entraînement de bande de données (35) est monté à l'intérieur d'une partie arrière du tiroir et possède une fente d'introduction de cassette s'ouvrant vers l'avant. Un magasin à cassettes (42) possède une pluralité de réceptacles espacés verticalement et servant à contenir une pluralité de cassettes de données empilées verticalement. Un chargeur de magasin (36) est monté dans la partie avant du tiroir, afin de loger le magasin à cassettes (42), de lui faire effectuer un déplacement alternatif dans un sens vertical, ainsi que de transférer sélectivement les cassettes entre le magasin (42) et la fente d'introduction de cassette du système d'entraînement de bande de données (35).
