An ink jet ink especially for printing on to plain paper comprises a suspension in (a) a non aqueous solvent of (b) a disperse phase comprising: (i) a water-insoluble dyestuff which is insoluble in said solvent at the ink jet operating temperature and below; (ii) a water-insoluble resinous dispersant for the dyestuff which in the amount used is capable of forming a solution in the said solvent at the ink jet printer operating temperature, (iii) a polymeric binder to hold the dyestuff on the surface of the paper. Une encre pour imprimante à jet d'encre et en particulier pour impression sur du papier ordinaire, comprend une suspension, dans (a) un solvant non aqueux, de (b) une phase dispersée comprenant: (i) une matière colorante insoluble dans l'eau et insoluble dans ledit solvant à la température de fonctionnement de l'imprimante à jet d'encre et au-dessous; (ii) un dispersant résineux insoluble dans l'eau et destiné à la matière colorante, utilisé en une quantité qui le rend susceptible de former une solution dans ledit solvant à la température de fonctionnement de l'imprimante; (iii) un liant polymère servant à maintenir la matière colorante sur la surface du papier.
