Summary:The hydraulic backing, which occurs only above a predetermined steering force, is carried out by means of a working cylinder (6) coupled to a mechanical steering system, a pump (19, 36) and a control valve (12). To provide a servo-assisted steering system which is safe in its operation and simple in its design, the displacement, under the effect of the steering force, against a pretension, of a structural element (2) of the mechanical steering system, mounted slidingly relative to the body of the vehicle, is used for the mechanical actuation of the control valve (12). Le support hydraulique, qui consiste en un cylindre de travail (6) couplé à un système de direction mécanique, en une pompe (19, 36) et en une vanne-pilote (12), ne fonctionne qu'au-delà d'une force de direction prédéterminée. On obtient une direction assistée de fonctionnement fiable et de conception simple grâce au déplacement contre une force de prétension, sous l'effet de la force de direction, d'un élément (2) du système de direction mécanique qui est monté de manière coulissante par rapport au corps du véhicule, ce déplacement servant à l'actionnement mécanique de la vanne-pilote (12).
