This object detection device is provided with: a transmitting and receiving unit for transmitting transmission waves and for receiving reflected waves produced by reflection of the transmission waves at an object; a coordinate computation unit for calculating coordinates indicating the location of an object present in the periphery of a mobile object on the basis of echo information indicating time-series changes in the intensity of the reflected waves; and a determination unit for determining that a low-detection target, which is an object that is subject to detection and has a height lower than a threshold value, is present if the coordinates of an object present in a region in a direction of advance of the mobile object are within a predetermined region that is established in advance as a region in which horizontal attenuation of the transmission waves is sufficiently little, the same object has been detected continuously for a predetermined length of time, and the intensity of the reflected waves has been attenuating along with movement of the mobile object in the direction of advance.
