L'invention concerne une composition de lixiviation pour l'extraction de cobalt à partir d'un déchet, la composition comprenant au moins un lixiviant organique chimiquement actif comprenant au moins un groupe hydroxyle faiblement acide, le lixiviant organique étant efficace pour modifier l'état d'oxydation du cobalt dans le déchet et générer une espèce ionique de cobalt (II) soluble comprenant un anion dérivé du lixiviant organique.
