Summary: | Disclosed in the present invention is a preparation method for biphenylene. Biphenylene is obtained by carrying out reaction using o-dihalobenzene as a raw material in the presence of an alkali metal hydride, wherein the alkali metal hydride is one or more of NaH, KH, CaH2, and LiH. It is disclosed in the present invention for the first time that o-diiodobenzene can be used to rapidly produce biphenylene at room temperature under the action of an alkali metal hydride such as sodium hydride. The reaction is green and efficient and has a high atom conversion rate, no transition metal catalysis is required, and the raw material o-diiodobenzene is cheap and easily available; an experiment is easy to operate, and a high yield can still be obtained when the experiment is scaled up; a reaction product is difficult to obtain in one step by other methods; and the product has important significance in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry and materials chemistry.
