This machine-roomless elevator is equipped with: a passenger compartment which moves up and down in an elevator shaft as a result of the movement of a main rope, and has a car suspension sheave around which the main rope is wound; a counterweight which moves up and down in the elevator shaft as a result of the movement of the main rope; a pair of weight guide rails which guide the upward/downward movement of the counterweight; and a hoist machine positioned at the top of the elevator shaft and having a drive sheave around which the main rope is wound. The region where the counterweight moves up and down is positioned to the side of the region where the passenger car moves up and down. The hoist machine is positioned between the pair of weight guide rails in the depth direction of the elevator shaft. La présente invention concerne un ascenseur sans salle des machines équipé : d'un compartiment passager qui se déplace vers le haut et vers le bas dans une gaine d'ascenseur suite au mouvement d'un câble principal, et présente une poulie de suspension de cabine autour de laquelle le câble principal est enroulé ; un contrepoids qui se déplace vers le haut et vers le bas dans la gaine d'ascenseur suite au mouvement du câble principal ; d'une paire de rails de guidage de poids qui guident le mouvement vers le haut/vers le bas du contrepoids ; et d'une machine de levage positionnée au sommet de la gaine d'ascenseur et ayant une poulie d'entraînement autour de laquelle le câble principal est enroulé. La région où le contrepoids se déplace vers le haut et vers le bas est positionnée sur le côté de la région où la cabine de passagers se déplace vers le haut et vers le bas.
