Provided is a user authentication method for authenticating a user aboard a vehicle (10), wherein: at a first time point, a first user aboard a vehicle (10) is authenticated (S1); a function of the vehicle (10) in accordance with the authenticated first user is enabled (S2); at a second time point that is after the first time point and that is during travel of the vehicle (10), it is determined whether a second user aboard the vehicle (10) is the same person as the first user (S4); and processing relating to restriction of the enabled function is performed in accordance with the result of the determination of whether or not the users are the same person (S5, S6).
