An architectural-structure covering including a covering moveable between extended and retracted positions, a rotatable member coupled to the covering, an operating system coupled to the rotatable member, an operating element, and a handle system configured to receive the operating element therein to render the operating element inaccessible. The handle system including a handle portion manipulatable by a user for manipulating the operating element to move the covering between the extended and retracted positions. The handle system further includes first and second gears configured to selectively engage, depending on the position of a selector, the downwardly or upwardly extending run or segment of the operating element. In use, the handle system is configured so that the end user can grip and move the handle portion, which causes one the first and second gears to fixedly engage the operating element, which causes the covering to move between the extended and retracted positions.
