Methods and systems for encoding and decoding image data used by machine vision applications are provided. According to certain embodiments, an exemplary encoding method may include: determining one or more regions of interest (ROIs) in an image; modifying the image based on the one or more ROIs, wherein modifying the image comprises at least one of the following: modifying a first ROI based on a portion of the image surrounding the first ROI; reducing content of a second ROI; or reducing a size of a third ROI; and compressing the modified image. Selon certains modes de réalisation, un procédé de codage donné à titre d'exemple peut consister à : déterminer une ou plusieurs régions d'intérêt (ROI) dans une image ; modifier l'image sur la base de la ou des ROI, la modification de l'image comprenant au moins l'une des actions suivantes : la modification d'une première ROI sur la base d'une partie de l'image entourant la première ROI ; la réduction d'un contenu d'une deuxième ROI ; ou la réduction d'une taille d'une troisième ROI ; et comprimer l'image modifiée.
