The present invention relates to an image inpainting apparatus and method, the image inpainting apparatus comprising: a background inpainting unit that generates a background inpainting image by performing background inpainting on an input image where a region to be inpainted is set; an object inpainting unit that generates an object image by performing object inpainting; and an image merging unit that generates an output image by merging the generated background inpainting image and the object image.
