The electronic device comprises: a communication device; a memory that stores location information about the electronic device and reference information about each of a plurality of locations; and a processor that, when device information about an unregistered IoT device is received via the communication device, sets the IoT device as an available IoT device on the basis of the device information. The processor: confirms the product type of the IoT device on the basis of the received device information; predicts the location of the IoT device on the basis of the confirmed product type; confirms a signal strength reference value for the IoT device on the basis of the reference information about each of the plurality of locations, the location of the electronic device, and the predicted location; and determines whether the IoT device is an available IoT device by comparing the confirmed signal strength reference value and the signal strength of the IoT device.
