Summary:The invention relates to the unexpected discovery that the oral administration of charged sodium channel blockers, also called "Nocions," alleviates inflammation in intestinal inflammatory diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), ulcerative colitis and/or Crohn's Disease, without substantial systemic exposure, as evidenced by low plasma concentrations. The formulations are engineered as an enteric coated tablet to release the composition at a selected location of the bowel.
