A system comprising: a container for containing precursor material, the container comprising a machine readable code, and; a machine for preparing a beverage or a foodstuff by processing said precursor material, the machine comprising: a code reading system to read said code; a processing unit for processing the precursor material of the container to the beverage or foodstuff;electronic memory storing a plurality of predefined recipes for controlling the processing unit; a user interface, and; electrical circuitry configured to control the processing unit to process the container based on a recipe stored in association with information encoded by the code, wherein the electrical circuitry is configured to select one of said recipes from the plurality of recipes based on both information encoded by the code and an input from the user interface. L'invention concerne un système comprenant : un récipient, permettant de contenir un matériau précurseur et comprenant un code lisible par machine ; et une machine, permettant de préparer une boisson ou un produit alimentaire par traitement dudit matériau précurseur. La machine comprend : un système de lecture de code, permettant de lire ledit code ; une unité de traitement, permettant de traiter le matériau précurseur du récipient destiné à la boisson ou au produit alimentaire ; une mémoire électronique, mémorisant une pluralité de recettes prédéfinies pour commander l'unité de traitement ; une interface utilisateur ; et une circuiterie électrique, conçue : pour commander le traitement, par l'unité de traitement, du récipient, d'après une recette mémorisée en association avec des informations codées par le code ; et pour sélectionner l'une desdites recettes parmi la pluralité de recettes, à la fois d'après les informations codées par le code et d'après une entrée provenant de l'interface utilisateur.
