Provided herein are methods of using herbicidal compositions containing a compound of formula (I): ("4-amino-3-chloro-5-fluoro-6-(4-chloro-2-fluoro-3-methoxyphenyl) pyridine-2-carboxylic acid"), or an agriculturally acceptable salt or ester thereof. The methods provide control of undesirable vegetation in rice paddies. Embodiments of the methods include, among other things, applying a herbicidal composition containing a compound of formula (I) "pre-planting."
