The purpose of the present invention is to provide calcium carbonate that has a controlled shape and a controlled surface treatment amount and can provide resin compositions each having a low viscosity and high thixotropic properties when the calcium carbonate is added to various resin materials.　The present invention provides surface-treated calcium carbonate having such a structure that a surface-treating agent comprising a fatty acid sodium salt or a fatty acid potassium salt is attached onto the surface of calcium carbonate having a primary particle aspect ratio of 2 to 20 when measured with an electron microscope, in which the BET specific surface area of the calcium carbonate is 3 - 13 [m2/g] and the surface coverage ratio of the calcium carbonate with the surface-treating agent per unit BET surface area of the calcium carbonate is 0.15 - 0.60 [%/(m2/g)]. La présente invention vise à fournir un carbonate de calcium présentant une forme régulée et une quantité régulée de traitement de surface et pouvant fournir des compositions de résine présentant de faibles propriétés de viscosité et des propriétés thixotropiques élevées lorsque le carbonate de calcium est ajouté à différents matériaux de résine.　La présente invention concerne à cet effet un carbonate de calcium traité en surface présentant une structure telle qu'un agent de traitement de surface comprenant un sel de sodium d'un acide gras ou un sel de potassium d'un acide gras est fixé sur la surface d'un carbonate de calcium présentant un rapport d'aspect primaire des particules de 2 à 20, la mesure étant effectuée au microscope électronique, l'aire spécifique BET du carbonate de calcium étant de 3 à 13 [m2/g] et le taux de couverture en surface du carbonate de calcium par l'agent de traitement de surface par unité d'aire BET du carbonate de calcium étant de 0,15 à 0,60 [%/(m2/g)]. 本発明は、制御された形状ならびに表面処理量を有し、各種樹脂材料に添加された際には低粘度で高いチキソ性を示す樹脂組成物を得ることが可能な炭酸カルシウムを提供することを目的とする。　本発明は、電子顕微鏡にて測定された一次粒子のアスペクト比が２～２０の炭酸カルシウムの表面に、脂肪酸ナトリウム塩または脂肪酸カリウム塩を含む表面処理剤が付着した、表面処理炭酸カルシウムであって、　該炭酸カルシウムのＢＥＴ比表面積が、３－１３［ｍ２／ｇ］であり、該炭酸カルシウムの単位ＢＥＴ比表面積あたりの該表面処理剤による表面被覆率が０．１５－０．６０［％／（ｍ２／ｇ）］である、前記表面処理炭酸カルシウムを提供する。
