The objective of the present invention is to improve the reliability of a lighting device (and a head-up display equipped with the lighting device). A lighting device 1 according to the present disclosure comprises: a plurality of laser beam source elements 11 for outputting laser beams; a dichroic mirror 14 for synthesizing the laser beams; a Peltier module 17; an inner case 16 which is made of a resin and accommodates the laser beam source elements 11 and the dichroic mirror 14; and an outer case 18 which is made of metal and encapsulates the inner case 16 and the Peltier module 17 therein. In addition, a head-up display H equipped with the lighting device 1 comprises: a lens 3 for collimating illumination light output from the lighting device 1; and a liquid crystal panel 4 illuminated by the illumination light passing through the lens 3.
