An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device comprises: a communication interface communicating with an external device; a speaker; a memory for storing at least one instruction; and at least one processor connected to the communication interface, the speaker and the memory so as to control the electronic device. Here, the at least one processor executes at least one instruction so as to: identify whether an external device is a privacy device if a voice signal of a user is received from the external device through the communication interface; output, to the external device, a response signal to the voice signal through the communication interface if the external device is identified as the privacy device; and output the response signal to the voice signal through the speaker if the external device is not identified as the privacy device.
