The invention generally relates to emodin derivatives of general structure (I), to pharmaceutical compositions comprising same and to their uses in medicine, especially in the treatment of bacterial or viral infections. The invention further relates to textiles, such as fabrics, comprising at least one emodin derivative of general structure (I). R1- R2- R3 and R4 are independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, halogen, NO2, SO3H and COOR; R is H, C1-6-alkyl, C2-6alkenyl or C2-6alkynyl; with the proviso that at least one of R1, R2, R3 and R4 is not hydrogen. L'invention concerne de manière générale des dérivés d'émodine de structure générale (I), des compositions pharmaceutiques les comprenant et leurs utilisations en médecine, en particulier dans le traitement d'infections bactériennes ou virales. L'invention concerne en outre des textiles, tels que des tissus, comprenant au moins un dérivé d'émodine de structure générale (I). R1- R2- R3 et R4 sont indépendamment sélectionnés dans le groupe constitué par un hydrogène, un halogène, NO2, SO3H et COOR ; R is H, un alkyle en C1-6, un alcényle en C2-6 ou un alcynyle en C2-6 ; à condition qu'au moins l'un de R1, R2, R3 et R4 ne soit pas un hydrogène.
